The Happiest Place on Earth

Since pretty much the beginning of the year, Chris and I were saving up money to go to Disneyland. Sometime around the beginning of the summer, his mom asked if we wanted to take a vacation anywhere because they had points accumulated from their timeshare and weren't sure if they were going to use them all up. So we did some research and found a hotel about 15 minutes away from Disneyland that we could stay at. We didn't mind that we'd have to drive there because whats better than staying somewhere for free? In addition to that, we bought our tickets through AAA so we got free parking at Disneyland. Since we brought food/snacks/water with us into the park almost everyday our entire 5 day vacation ended up costing us roughly about $700. I think we did pretty good considering we also got a few little mementos to bring home with us. There's nothing I hate more than wasting money or spending too much money on things so I'm glad we were able to have a great 1st anniversary trip with a limited cost. (Of course, this is mostly due to Chris' parents for letting us use their timeshare.) SO what did we do for 5 days? Well, spend as much time as possible at Disneyland of course!

We knew early on that we wanted to leave for Disneyland as early as possible on Sunday morning. We had originally joked about leaving at 3 am but were seriously considering it because we didn't want to spend all day in the car and we didn't want to drive when it would be exteremely hot. When Chris got home from work that day, I jokingly told him that if we didn't leave that second we wouldn't go at all. This went on all evening until we seriously decided that we should leave even earlier than we had talked about. We ended up going to his parents for a bit that night to say good bye and when we got back we decided to just leave. We knew we probably wouldn't even be able to sleep so we got everything ready and around 1 in the morning we were off! I tried to stay awake for most of the drive but I got really tired and ended up sleeping through most of it. When we finally made it to Anaheim we went to Walmart to get some ice (for our food that we packed in the cooler) and a couple of other things that we had forgotten to bring with us. (ie. bowls, spoons, flavor packets, etc) Then, since we had gotten a 5 day hopper ticket (for the price of a 3-day, I might add) we went to Disneyland right away. We walked around for a bit and then decided to go to the hotel because we were getting cranky due to lack of sleep. And who wants to be cranky while at Disneyland? Def. not me. So we headed to our hotel (which turned out to be really nice and conveninetly located) to get some rest.

The following days were alternated between Disneyland and California Adventure. Most of it has meshed together in my memory so I can't remember what we did exactly on certain days. therefore I will just write about the highlights:

Our favorite place in BOTH parks is the animation studio in California Adventure. We spent HOURS in there learning how to draw characters (I discovered a hidden talent) and making videos with our voices for the characters. We also had some talks with Crush it was all so much fun.

We finally got to go on Toy Story Mania and it was great! We were a little skeptical at first because we had heard it was like the Buzz Lightyear ride but it turned out to be so much better. You sit on a little car that goes around and you pull a string to shoot things at the wall. Sometimes you're shooting plates or at the moving ducks, it's just like the games that you would play at the carnival. Funny story.. while we were there we were standing behind two ladies and their kids. At one point one of the boys turned to the little girl and said you're going to ride with.. (I can't remember the name) and she says very matter of factly while touching my leg, I'm riding with my mama! and then he looks at her and says that's not your mama at the same time that she looks at me and runs away because she's so embarrased! It was too cute and I felt so bad for her!

Another thing we were able to do this time around was finally go on the Finding Nemo ride. We had tried to go last year during our honeymoon but everytime we got there the wait was at least an hour long. Once we went during magic morning, ran straight there and by the time we got there the wait was an hour and a half long. SO glad we didn't bother to wait that long because really the ride is not all the great. The submarine is TINY and of course doesn 't even really go underwater, guess it's probably more exciting if you're a little kid.

We also saw a bunch of shows and just tried to take in everything that Disneyland has to offer. They also had this cool setup that showed all the things that were being planned for Disneyland in the near future. For this reason we have decided that we will not be going back until at least 2013. (Until about a year AFTER all the new things have been added). Although it's sad to think we'll have to wait so long to go back, a comforting thought is that we'll probably have a baby by then and it'll be so much fun to go there with our own kids!
