18 month Check-up

I took Hector to his 18 month check up this week. He weighed just about 34 lbs and measured 34 ¼ inches. No surprise that he’s in the 99.96% for weight and somewhere in the 90th % for height. He’s always been in the 90th % for both, but for some reason his weight really shot up this. Dr. McAfee asked me  if he’s an active kid and I said that he was, so she said we weren’t going to worry about the weight for now. If at 2 years old, he was still off the charts we might talk a little bit more about his diet, but she wasn’t concerned at this point. I'm glad, because it’s not like we overfeed Hector and it’s not like he’s really fat. I mean seriously, I see some little kids who are chubby, but Hector is just BIG. He always has been, and probably always will. Although, my nephew was a chubby baby, and now he's skinny as a twig, so who knows.

They had mailed me a questionnaire before the visit to find out how Hector is doing developmentally and Dr. McAfee said that he’s really advanced for his age, which is exactly what she had expected. One of the questions asked was if he said at least 8 words other than mama or dada to which I answered yes and she said she was able to notice it at the visit. She even said that he’s speaking in two word sentences and phrases already (though we may not always understand it). Little does she know he’s been doing that for a while now!

(Sidenote: whenever Hector gets a hold of our keys, he typically runs straight to the door and tries to “unlock” it. When we’re at the car, he tries to unlock that door as well and if he doesn’t have a key, he’ll take his little finger and try to stick it in the keyhole.)

Today at the doctor’s office he took it one step further. I gave him my keys to distract him and he started to walk to the door handle, then he stopped, turned around and went straight to the key hole on the cabinet. I think he realized that that handle didn’t have a keyhole and so he went straight to the nearest one.

After that he got his shot and we were on our way home. I’ve been lucky that he hasn’t had any reactions whenever he’s had a shot. Hopefully things stay that way, he doesn’t go back to the doctor’s until he’s 2! TWO!! How can my little boy be turning two this year?!
