2 years!

When I was younger I had an idea of what I wanted to do in my life. I knew that I was going to graduate from high school at the age of 17, and go straight to college. I figured college took about 4 years (you know back then when it was kind of affordable and there weren't so many restrictions like unit caps, etc). I'd always loved UC Davis, so I figured that I would go there and potentially be a college graduate by the time I was 21. An of course I'd be living in a perfect world, where I could get a job right away, so there I'd be working as an elementary school teacher teaching 2 or 3 grade and I would meet the man of my dreams. We'd get married (I'd be around 23 or 24) and then after a year or so of marriage we'd have our first child (I'd be around 25 or 26). Yeah.. that's what I thought would happen. Let's take a look at what really happened.

I ended up moving at the end of my sophomore year. Something I'd never in a million years had thought would've happened. I hated it at first, but moving turned  out to be one of the best things in my life... well what I mean in that that move allowed some pretty amazing things to happen.

I did graduate high school when I was 17. But because of expenses and because it made more sense, I didn't go straight to UC Davis. Instead I decided to do my general ed at Solano. Because I didn't move away, I was able to attend the singles branch here and go to Institute where amazing thing number 1 happened.. I met Chris. I've often wondered what would have happened if I had gone straight to UC Davis... only for a second though as I don't like to think of my life without Chris being in it. As I did more research and (again thought about expenses) I realized that it made more sense to go to Sac State than it did to go to UC Davis. So there goes change number 2, no Davis, hello Sac State. Chris and I started dating and then got engaged and got married, I was 20 (change #3). After a year and a half of marriage, we decide to start a family (kind of part of the plan, but I'm 22 instead of 25 or 26, (change #4).Budget cuts, less classes plus commutes make my college plan take longer, I graduate at the age of 22 (change #5). Which brings us to the present, where I am a recent college graduate, celebrating my 2nd anniversary with my wonderful hubby as we anxiously await the birth of our little boy.

It's funny, I got most of what I wanted, just in different order and I wouldn't change a thing. So I'm not a teacher yet, and quite honestly, don't expect to be anytime soon, but I know that someday I will be. Somehow it will work out. And even if I don't ever get to teach in a classroom, I know I'll be able to use everything I've learned and know in the most important classroom of all- my home.
