Family Day

When I was little, my family and I would always go out on Sundays because it was always my dad's for sure day off. We'd go out to breakfast and then spend the entire day out having fun, doing some shopping, whatever it was, but we did it as a family. Most of the time these outings led us to Pier 39, which has long been a family joke between us now. Whenever we go there now (which is not very often at all) we laugh about how we were practically best friends with the seals there since that's where we'd always end up.

I remember that one day my dad tried to take us somewhere new. He wouldn't tell us where we were going, just said that it was a place he'd heard about and thought that we would like. My brother and I kept wondering where we were going and finally we arrived. Imagine my dad's surprise when the first thing out of our (my brother's and I) mouths were.. "OH, we've been here before on a field trip, it's really cool!" Needless to say, my dad was a little disappointed, but we did relly like the place (it was the California Academy of Sciences) so everything turned out ok. It's now another joke in our family.

After we joined the church, our family days had to be switched to Saturdays since we learned about keeping the Sabbath day holy. Sometimes my dad worked and it wasn't as routine anymore. Then we got older and sometimes had school functions and then jobs and ultimately life got in the way of those family days. That is until this last weekend. My dad took some days of work, we worked out schedules and we headed down to Santa Cruz for the day. Unfortunately my brother and brother-in-law had to work, so it wasn't the whole family. But it was still fun nonetheless. We went to a flea market there (and got some cool stuff and dee-licious fruit and then headed to the boardwalk. Chris had fun in the water with my niece and nephew, while the rest of us hung out nice and dry. All in all, it was a very fun day.

I'm excited to reinstate family days with our own family when our little one is born, or well in the next couple of years as we'll first need Chris to be done with school and have a non-retail type job- you know the kind that actually lets you have weekends off =).
