It's the last day of school before Spring Break and I have another 45 minutes to kill before my last class of the day. I have a TON of homework that I could be doing, and yet my brain will not concentrate and I've already checked Facebook so now I need something else to do. Therefore, this post may not make the most sense, but I know for sure that year from now when I look back and read it, this post will definitely bring a smile to my face as it goes to show how much of a dork I really am. Yes, even at the old age of 22...
So in the Spring of 2008, I began to take the bus to Sac State from Fairfield. Now a lot of people are amazed that I do this, but really I don't really have a choice and it's actually a pretty cheap alternative to driving. In addition, most of the people on the bus are business people (so my life is not really in danger) and I mostly slept the whole way (which is something I desperately needed anyway). This bus makes two stops after it leaves Fairfield, once in Vacaville and once in Dixon. In Dixon, it passes by this Safeway shopping center that has of course, a Safeway, but also other small businesses. One of these businesses is the Solano Baking Co. which I, for the longest time, thought it was the Solano BaNking Co. I mean honestly, I don't think I'd ever given it much thought, I just figured hey it's another bank. Big deal. Whatever. As I said, I didn't really care that there was a bank there... that is, until this semester.
This semester is the first semester that Chris was working at Big Spoon Yogurt, which is located in the Safeway Shopping Center of Dixon. (I don't actually think it's called the Safeway Shopping Center, but that's what I'm going to call it for now). This means that everytime I'm on the bus and we get to Dixon (provided that I'm awake) I look over to where Big Spoon Yogurt is and look for the hubby's car. Why? Not really sure, but I think it's a way for me to think about him since we have to be apart (not that I don't think about him at other times, but you get what I mean). Well, recently everytime I would look over to Big Spoon Yogurt, I'd also see this little blackboard on the corner of the street that said "FRESH DONUTS AND BREAD (OR CAKE)" and this did two things for me. First, it made me want some donuts, so great job on the advertising, because apparently those little boards really work! Although in all actuality, my cravings may be the result of something, or I guess I can say someone else =).But seriously, to this day, I have yet to have some fresh donuts and it's kinda killing me, a lot! Ok back to the story so the second thing that this little sign did for me is it made me wonder where in the heck I could get some fresh donuts and bread!!! And I really thought ok thanks for telling me you have them, because now I want them but where am I supposed to get them from? And really for a couple of weeks (I only see the sign about once a week) I would look around the shopping center wondering where I could go get some fresh donuts.
THEN, all of a sudden, one day I looked over at the same sign that I'd seen for the past 2 or so years and realized that there was no N! So this whole time that I thought it was the SOLANO BANKING CO. it was truly in fact the SOLANO BAKING CO. and therefore since it's a bakery, that's where I'm supposed to get those delicious donuts! It really was the greatest epiphany of the day (At least I hope they're delicious, because I will in fact go in there one day to get some fresh donuts and I sure hope they are as good as they have been in my mind.)
In my defense, however, even Chris agreed that the sign does make it seem like it's a bank and not a bakery. Even though he laughed at me when I first told him the story and even though he knew that it was in fact a bakery, he said that the next time he saw it, he too thought it said Banking, at least for a split second, which of course makes me feel better.
But seriously! Does the above sign not make you think you'd be entering a bank instead of a bakery? I think I should go tell them they need a more cake-y/ donut-y kind of sign so as to avoid any future confusion.
Irma, Irma, Irma... Of all the people in the world, I beleive I love your random jibberish the most. I would normally look at a post like that and think, I don't have time to read that much *mostly b/c my life is made up of small available moments now) but when I know it's your randomness, I don't think twice, b/c I know it will behilarious and always interesting. Thanks for sharing. Let us know how the donuts are when you finally get around to trying them.
ReplyDeleteSo...are you pregnant? "Although in all actuality, my cravings may be the result of something, or I guess I can say someone else =)." Maybe I'm just reading too much in.
ReplyDeleteThe funny thing is, I used to work in Dixon every so often, and I would see that sign and I would do the same thing!! I think it's the font. It just makes it look more like a bank than a bakery.
